Plan a tree-supported or hybrid treehouse from assessed specifications
Use this route when one or more assessed trees carry part of the treehouse. Record the supplied attachment, support and movement details alongside the platforms, enclosed rooms and roofs. A hybrid project can include ground supports, but an estimated timber list does not assess the tree or establish the capacity of a connection.
For a structure supported entirely by posts and foundations, choose the freestanding raised playhouse planner. For a detached garden workspace with a different building scope, use the garden room planner. Select the support method before comparing material costs.
If the supplied hybrid design includes ground-supported concrete work, use the concrete quantity calculator for that separately specified component. Bring checked quantities into a single project schedule, and keep tree attachments, access, guarding and any quoted specialist work visible rather than assuming a timber subtotal covers the whole build.

Choose the correct support system
A freestanding raised playhouse needs its supplied foundation and post layout, beam and joist schedule, bracing and connections. A tree-supported or hybrid project also needs an assessed tree and the supplied attachment, growth and movement details. Hybrid projects retain their ground-supported foundation scope.
Do not infer tree suitability or attachment capacity from a trunk diameter. This planner does not recommend a bolt layout or decide how multiple trees may move. Treehouse Supplies' product FAQ explains its approach to tree assessment and hardware questions. Tree penetrations, branch clearances and irregular boundaries require supplied details or site templates.
Worked quantity example
A 3 m × 3 m platform has an area of 9 m² and gross perimeter of 12 m. A 2 m × 2 m room within it does not add another 4 m² of flooring. With 2 m low walls, a symmetric gable rise of 1 m and 2 m² of supplied openings, net wall finish is 16 m². With no overhang, the sloping roof area is about 5.66 m². These figures explain geometry, not recommended construction dimensions.
Materials, fixings and compatible finishes
State actual timber section, grade, treatment, stock length and intended use. Use the selected supplier's effective coverage for cladding and roof products, including their required laps and details. Membranes, tapes, connectors, fasteners, roof edges and opening trims require their own supported quantities or quotation scope. Access, play use and maintenance
Keep access, guarding, entrapment, fall protection, protective surfacing and inspection responsibilities explicit. Use guidance applicable to the intended use and location; the US CPSC home-playground handbook is one regional reference. The planner does not substitute a universal set of safety dimensions.
Check permission for the actual site before work. Raised structures should not be assumed to follow the same allowances as an ordinary ground-level shed. Planning Portal's outbuildings guidance provides an England-focused starting point; confirm the appropriate local rules.
Purchasing and cutting assumptions
Each purchase row applies its stated allowance once, divides by supplier coverage, rounds whole units when selected and deducts matching owned stock. Generated platform boards and supplied cuts allocate stock separately by row. No automatic splices, structural sizing, notches, stair fabrication or tree cut-outs are created. Blank prices remain unpriced; zero is an explicit no-charge entry.
Frequently asked questions
Is this planner free?
Yes. Materials, supplied cuts, saved projects and printable quotation packs are free. The Quote & Invoice Generator is an optional separate purchase.
Can I start with a small platform?
Yes. Enter one rectangular platform. Room, roof, board layout and price details can follow later. Missing specifications remain visible.
Can it handle a larger project?
Add or duplicate non-overlapping modules, or use identical copies. Each module can have its own enclosure and roof. Connections, shared walls and irregular geometry need supplied schedules. The supported limit is 30 modules and 1,500 supplied or generated cutting pieces.
Does it calculate safe post or beam sizes?
No. Supply the foundation, structural and connection design. Structural cutting lines remain withheld until a design reference and material specification have been entered.
Are stairs and guarding included?
Their work packages are included. Enter the specified components, guarding run and access quote or schedule. Platform height does not automatically generate a compliant stair, ladder, gate or barrier.
How are roofs and openings measured?
The supported gable or single-slope roof uses slope and horizontal overhang. Wall finish deducts the supplied total openings area. Roof sheets, framing, reveals and junctions still need specified product or cutting schedules.
Can I compare quotes and save a project?
Save a named project, duplicate it and change specifications or prices. Comparison shows quantities, known prices and unresolved scope. Download a backup to move the project to another device.
Can I use it for a public playground or accommodation?
Those design and approval requirements are outside this planner. It does not certify occupancy, play-equipment compliance, tree suitability or permission.
