Plan a prefabricated pool shell from delivery to backfill

Use this planner for a prefabricated in-ground shell, including fibreglass/fiberglass systems where the supplier provides the installation specification. Record the exact shell model, supplied capacity, delivery and lifting access, excavation, bedding and backfill quantities. A shell-only quotation is not the same as a complete installed pool price.

For a pool constructed on site, use the constructed in-ground pool planner. For a freestanding kit, use the above-ground pool planner. Keep each option in its own planner and compare equivalent installation scopes rather than transferring incompatible project backups.

The excavation and spoil calculator supports separately measured removal estimates, and the aggregate and bulk-bag calculator can price the exact bedding or backfill material specified by the shell supplier. Neither tool selects compatible backfill, determines lifting requirements or replaces the installation manual. Carry across only quantities that are not already included in the shell installation package.

Plan your pool installation from dimensions to quotation

Delivered pool shells, specified groundworks, equipment and installation costs. This planner connects the pool quantities, installation packages, supplied material schedules and optional budget. Start with the pool size, then add the level of detail available for your project.

How to use the planner

  1. Replace the illustrative dimensions and select the correct construction route.
  2. Record supplied specifications and groundworks quantities.
  3. Identify which packages are quoted, scheduled separately or not applicable.
  4. Add product-specific material coverage, purchases, supplied cuts and optional costs.
  5. Calculate, review unresolved items, and print a quotation or full project pack.
  6. Save the project and download a backup for another device.

Keep the shell and groundworks specifications connected

A prefabricated shell arrives as a manufactured vessel. Plan supplier-specified excavation, bedding, shell delivery/lifting, backfill, groundwater provisions and connections as separate work packages. Verify access and responsibility for reinstating the garden.

Enter the supplied water capacity for shells with moulded seats, steps or complex profiles. Water capacity is not the shell’s external displacement and must not be subtracted from excavation volume to calculate backfill. Enter supplier backfill quantities explicitly. See Leisure Pools’ installation stages for an example of this workflow.

Worked example

A supplier-stated 44,800-litre capacity is 44.8 m³. An independently specified cuboid excavation 10 m × 6 m × 2 m is 120 m³ in situ. If 20 m³ is retained on site and the entered loose-volume factor is 1.2, estimated loose spoil removal is 120 m³. Bedding and backfill remain separate supplied quantities.

A complete installation scope

Allow for survey/design, site access, temporary works, shell installation, joints and penetrations, filtration and treatment, electrical installation, water and discharge arrangements, safe access and barriers, commissioning and reinstatement. Mark packages as not applicable only with a stated reason. Quoted packages must not also be bought through linked material rows.

SPATA’s owner and contract checklist helps define installation responsibilities. Location-specific permission and barrier requirements must be checked for the actual site; Planning Portal and US CPSC barrier guidance address different jurisdictions and are not interchangeable rules.

Transparent purchases and costs

Every material row declares its quantity source and purchase coverage. Waste is applied once, whole purchases round upwards when selected, and compatible owned stock is deducted. Unknown quantities and prices remain visible. Contingency and markup apply to known costs; tax follows the selected inclusive or exclusive basis. Optional running electricity is shown separately from installation.

Frequently asked questions

Is this planner free?

Yes. Calculations, materials, supplied cuts, project backups and printouts are free. The Quote & Invoice Generator is a separate optional purchase.

Do I need to enter prices?

No. Leave unknown prices blank and print the merchant quotation list for suppliers to complete. Explicit zero means no charge; blank means not priced.

Does it design the pool structure or equipment?

No. Use supplied structural, groundworks, hydraulic and electrical specifications. Required unknowns remain visible in your project pack.

Can I compare different options?

Save a named project, duplicate it and change the specification. Compare the current project with a saved scenario, checking scope and unpriced lines as well as known costs.

Can I paste a larger materials schedule?

Yes. Use Bulk Entry with the template header, preview the rows and choose append or replace. Limits are 150 rows per schedule and 1,500 supplied cutting pieces per project.

How do I move a project to another device?

Download the versioned project backup and import it into the same pool planner on the other device. Browser saves do not sync automatically.

What does the cutting pack cover?

Only entered straight components and rectangular sheet blanks with specified stock sizes, kerf and trim. It does not create engineered reinforcement bends, fabricated liners or proprietary kit components.

Does the pack confirm permission or compliance?

No. It records the supplied scope and specifications. Check current requirements with the relevant local authority and installers for the project location.
